At lunch time on Monday, March 8, women and girls from all over Anchorage will join together on the Hillcrest Drive bridge over Minnesota Boulevard next to West High School to celebrate the 100th year of International Women's Day. They will display their messages and wishes for peace and development for women in war-torn countries all across the world.
 
Taking time out from their work day and school day, the people on the bridge will support Women for Women International, a grassroots organization empowering women in war-torn countries, including Afghanistan, Iraq, the Congo and Sudan.
 
Janice Weiss, YWCA Anchorage Executive Director, will give a short speech praising the efforts of Anchorage citizens to raise awareness and money to support eliminating racism and empowering women. She says, "I am so pleased to be part of such an important event that brings together women all across the globe. Bringing peace and development to female survivors of war would be an amazing achievement and something we should work towards every day of the year, not just on International Women's Day".
